What we offer
Our solution is a digital platform designed to support early-career scientists (graduate students and postdoctoral researchers) throughout their academic career and professional integration. The 2nd Lab is a talent incubator based on 4 pillars.
Mentoring
We put early-career scientists in touch with mentors who want to share their career experiences by coaching a mentee and putting their know-how at the latter's service. 2nd Lab mentoring is a supportive relationship based on mutual responsibility, trust and respect.

Gad Sabbatier
Co-founder and director
Gad Sabbatier has an engineering background, with over 15 years’ experience in biotechnologies, deeptech and RetD. Gad is an expert in technology transfer and the development of high-tech products. At present, it supports researchers in their development and transfer projects from the laboratory to the marketplace. As co-founder of The 2nd Lab, he enables graduate and postdoctoral researchers to build impactful careers, combining mentoring and professional development. Gad’s leadership has secured several million dollars in R&D funding and fostered interdisciplinary collaboration.
Safwen Karoui
Project and Business Development Manager
With over 10 years’ experience in fundraising and non-profit management, Safwen specializes in international development and education initiatives. Safwen has led skills-building programs, reformed career centers and managed USAID projects worth millions of dollars. Safwen holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration and a master’s degree in business analytics, combining her expertise in strategy, education and data-driven solutions.

The 2nd Lab is a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering the next generation of researchers to pursue exciting careers outside academia. We offer a career mentoring program for PhD students, Masters students and post-doctoral researchers, providing practical advice and proven methods to accelerate their careers beyond academia. Our unique approach combines one-to-one mentoring, workshops and an online learning platform designed to support students at every stage of their journey and thinking, whether they are entering the workforce, pursuing a PhD or starting a post-doc. With personalized mentoring and comprehensive resources, Le 2nd Lab helps students acquire the skills, network and confidence they need to succeed in their careers and make a lasting impact.
